Michael "Butch" Vaughn

of Kyle, South Dakota, died on Friday, June 26, 2020
in an accident near his home at the age of 71

Michael Albert “Butch” Vaughn was born on February 27, 1949 in Gordon, Nebraska to Frank and Beverly (May) Vaughn. He was the second oldest of four children.

Butch started school in Sydney, NE and also attended Green Valley School. After graduated from Bennett County High School he went to work on the family ranch. In 1986 Butch started his home ranch east of Kyle where he resided until his death.

Butch was always soft spoken and a man of few words, until it came to talking to friends about ranching and cattle. He took pride and was well known for an outstanding cow herd. Butch enjoyed attending bull sales and selecting bulls to improve the family’s cattle. He was a true shepherd of his cattle and put their comfort and well-being above his own.

Butch had a few faithful dogs by his side throughout the years. The names and breeds varied from one to another but one thing did not change-they were cherished not just as his helper but as a partner and special friend.

Most of all Butch loved kids, whether they were family, neighbors, or a little kid at the sale barn. He loved sharing his wisdom of ranching with them and because of his sweet tooth he always had extra candy to share with them.

Happy to have shared his life are his siblings, Twila Goodman, Tom Vaughn and David (Tami) Nelson; nephews and nieces, Shawn (Katie) Goodman, Rob (Andrea) Goodman, TR Nelson, JR Nelson, Travis Nelson, and Chad Nelson; ten grand nieces and nephews; one great-grand niece; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; uncles, Bud and Dan May; and cousins Tammy and Jerry May.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the Martin Community Cemetery.
