Carol Anderson

of Belvidere, South Dakota , died on Wednesday, January 11, 2023
at her home in Belvidere. at the age of 77

Carol Louise (Brunsch) Anderson joined our Heavenly Father on January 11th, 2023. She passed away in her home, on her beloved ranch, as her heart had desired.

Carol was born to Paul and Lucille (Peck) Brunsch on Nov. 5th, 1945, in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She was the fourth of seven children, and grew up on the family ranch outside Norris, South Dakota. During her younger years she attended a little country school in Washabaugh County that locals referred to as The Berry School, and during her later years she graduated from Belvidere High School, in Belvidere, South Dakota, and had also attended St. Mary’s School for Indian Girls in Springfield, South Dakota.

Carol married Kenny Willert shortly after high school, and they established their home in Martin, South Dakota. There were no children born to this union. However, Carol took on the motherly role of her three younger siblings while they attended high school.

Carol later married the love of her life, Stanton Anderson, and they established their ranch outside Corn Creek, South Dakota. Carol loved the ranch, and the life she and Stanton shared together. She created a storybook setting with a yard full of beautiful flowers, trees, shrubs, and an amazing vegetable garden. She adored her cats, dogs, horses, goats, and honestly was a person who could make a pet out of any animal. She milked her goats daily, and had them trained to always be on their best behavior. Never would you see any of them attempting to get into her yard, stand on her cars, or do anything mischievous. She worked hard on their ranch, right alongside Stanton. It wasn’t an uncommon site to see her running behind her push lawn mower. She knew how to get the job done! In a recent visit with one of her nieces, Carol laughed and recalled how she went out to cake the cows with fresh make-up on for the first 10 years of their marriage! Only Carol could accomplish such a task. She was a beautiful soul, inside and out.

Carol had strength, determination, and a love for God that enabled her to persevere through several life challenges. She had a ‘tougher than nails’ personality, and lived her life to the absolute fullest. She loved her family immensely, and treasured her visits with her dear siblings, cousins and friends. She dedicated many years of her life to providing care for her aging mother and father, enabling them to also live out their last days in their home. She was an indispensable mother figure to her nieces and nephews. She was so proud of them all, and she always opened her home and her heart to each and every one of them. Going to Aunt Carol’s house was always the first choice of a summer activity, and so many wonderful memories were made as cousins gathered for those bunkhouse summer visits.

Carol was an active member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Martin, South Dakota, where she served on the Bishop’s Committee, as well as many other committees. Her faith gave her strength as she faced daily battles from an autoimmune disease that slowly took away her mobility, but we can honestly say it did not take away her fiery spirit! She was in charge of her health care decisions, and was still operating a very successful hunting business, The Blackpipe Lodge, during this period of her life. Again, her strong faith, strength, determination, and quite a bit of stubbornness persevered over it all, and she was able to live out her life to her very last day on the ranch she loved.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Stanton; her parents, Paul and Lucille Brunsch, brothers Beryl and Jack Brunsch, niece Angie Amiotte, and step-daughter Sally Anderson. She is survived by siblings Nancy Kehn, Jim Brunsch (Jill), Jane Rutherford (Rusty Jones), and Cindy Coon (Rodney), numerous nieces and nephews, step-daughter Cindy Weaver (Lance), and step-grandchildren Lucinda Weaver (Brendan Feehan), Michael Weaver (Erin), Ben Weaver, and Anne Sewell.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Belvidere Community Church.

Interment will follow at the Belvidere Community Cemetery.

Cards may be sent in care of Cindy Coon, P.O. Box 321, Martin, SD 57551. In lieu of flowers, we ask for memorial donations to be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O. Box 100, Chamberlain, SD 57325. This school was very dear to Carol’s heart, and she donated to them on a regular basis.
