Vivene Matthewsof Richwood, Texas, formerly of Wall, South Dakota, died on Monday, September 12, 2016

Vivene J. Fuller was born on August 7, 1927, in Milford, Nebraska, the daughter of Harry and Lullavan Marie (McCalip) Fuller. At the age of three, Vivene moved southwest of Ogallala, Nebraska, and attended rural school in that area. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1944. After obtaining her teacher's certificate, she taught rural school for the 1st year that fall then moved to Kearney to further her education. Vivene later moved to Denver, Colorado, and attended the Barnes School of Commerce.
She was united in marriage to Dallas Matthews on July 1, 1946. They made their home in Ogallala where she taught at a rural school south of Ogallala. Then Vivene taught 26 miles north of Ogallala for two years. They then moved to Stanley, North Dakota, where Vivene was an assistant manager at the hospital before being deputy Register of Deeds, and later the Office Manager at the clinic. After 12 years, they moved to Mission in 1970, where Vivene taught school before moving to Wall and buying the flower shop. On June 11, 1980, she sold the flower shop. From 1980 to 1997, Vivene and Dallas owned and ran the Arrow Campground in Wall.
Her husband Dallas preceded her in death in 1998. Vivene continued to make her home in Wall until moving to Richwood, Texas, to be near her daughter Sheri, on Sunday, August 28, 2011, where she has since resided.
Vivene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, held many positions at the Methodist Church, and was a past officer of District United Methodist Women. She also enjoyed painting, golfing, and creating greeting cards.
Survivors include one son, Rodger Matthews of Grant, Nebraska; three daughters, Penny (Marvin) Pederson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sheryl "Sheri" Matthews of Richwood, Texas, and Glenna Meiers of New Town, North Dakota; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Duane Matthews on August 21, 1998; two brothers Herbert and Lyle Fuller; and one sister Cleo Watson.
Memorial Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Russell Masartis officiating.
Private family interment will at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
