Ronald Gene Sammons was born on February 23, 1936 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Floyd and Ruby (Albery) Sammons. They lived on Ghost Canyon Road and helped Ruby’s folks at the Iron Mountain Café. Later they worked with Ernest Carter and put up hay in MN, ND, and the prairies of SD. They moved to Midland in 1949.
Ronnie graduated from Midland High School in 1954 and was united in marriage to Emily Rauch of Belvidere June 6, 1954. He was employed by Don Sheeley at the standard station for a short time. He later helped his Dad in the hay field hauling hay to Belle Fourche, Wyoming, and other dairies in the hills. He worked for the county for one winter and drove truck for several years in the winter to Texas for Gus Larson hauling grain there and cake back. He bought his own truck and did long distance hauling for STC. In 1976 he bought his folks’ place on the Bad River when Ruby and Floyd moved to Rapid City. Ronnie bought Cliff Phillips’ trucking business and hauled cattle for several years.
Ronnie always enjoyed family gatherings and playing cards and games with the grandkids and great-grandkids.

I was on Rush Funeral Home web page (for which I am so thankful) and was saddened to see Ronnie's picture in the obituaries. Any time a person would see Ronnie ... he always had a big smile. He was a kind and caring man. And Emily, your son Mark; my son, Les, and Brady Daly, and Randy Martin ... were best friends. Graduating from Midland High School with the Class of 1980. I enjoyed those years Ronnie's folks Floyd and Ruby rented a trailer house spot on a lot of ours across from where Jerry and I lived in a house. I always enjoyed those times of visiting with them. My prayers to you and your family, Emily. God Bless you with many, many, good memories!
