Vlasta "Pat" Kirk

of Martin, South Dakota, died on Thursday, March 2, 2023
at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 84

Vlasta Kirk was born September 7, 1938, to Joseph and Ruzena Buresh in western Bennet County. She spent her early years helping her parents on the farm north of Batesland South Dakota.

Being the youngest child, her mother said her dad spoiled her as much as he could through her younger years.

Vlasta met Billy Joe Kirk and they were married August 17, 1955 and to their union three sons were born, Lonnie Lee, Roddy Ray and Joseph Todd. The Kirk family lived and ranched in south east Bennett County through the mid 80’s until Billy Joe and Vlasta purchased and moved to the Satterlee place north of Martin South Dakota. There, Vlasta enjoyed spending her time hand making draperies, porcelain dolls and also opened and operated a secondhand store.

Billy Joe and Vlasta acquired rental properties for their transition into retirement. After Billy Joe’s passing in 2017, she continued to manage their rental properties until April of 2021 when Vlasta moved to Philip SilverLeaf Assisted Living where she resided until her passing.

Vlasta is survived by her sons Rod (Beverly) Kirk, Joseph (Rosana) Kirk, grandchildren Chaney (Kelly) Boomer, Laci (Scott) Varilek, great grandchildren Dyson Schofield, Chayson Schofield, Tyan Schofield, Ryden Schofield, Emersyn Boomer, Nash Varilek, Ridley Varilek, Roper Varilek , Lonnie Varilek, Brothers Bob Buresh and Frank Buresh.

Vlasta is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Ruzena Buresh, her husband Billy Joe Kirk, her son Lonnie Lee Kirk, granddaughter Charlsee Ray Kirk and several sisters and brothers.

Guest Book

We are sorry to hear this. I had been asking people in Martin if she was still there. Pat worked for us and we were close friends. Gary was in the helicopter when they found Lonnie. Have a sick sister so can't make the funeral. Our best to everyone and prayers.

My deepest sympathy to all the family. I am glad I got to know Pat when I was the Director of Silverleaf. All of her family meant so much to her…she spoke of you often. I pray she is at peace and that God holds you close during this difficult time.
