Janice K. Mittelstadt

of Watauga, Texas, died on Thursday, January 7, 2016
while on vacation in Central America at the age of 67

Janice Kay Mittelstadt was born on March 14, 1948, in Terraville, South Dakota, to Raymond and Violet Mittelstadt and went to meet our heavenly father on January 7, 2016.

Jan went to grade school in Terraville, high school in Lead, and received a Bachelor’s in Education from Black Hills State College in Spearfish, with a major in physical education. She taught Junior and Senior P.E. for three years at Todd County High School on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission. She moved to Billings, Montana, in 1974, where she attended the Deaconess Hospital X-Ray training and received her certificate as an x-ray technician. In 1986 she moved to Olathe, Kansas, and in 1998, again moved to Watauga, Texas, where she retired in 2006.

Jan was on a cruise in the Caribbean and was on a snorkeling tour at the time of her death. She had always wanted to go snorkeling, so God allowed her to fulfill that dream before taking her home.

She is survived by two sisters, Ramona “Monie” (Dick) Tinker, and Carolgene (Dale) Peters, both of Lead; a special friend, Violet “Vi” Schofield, of Watauga, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, several great-great-nieces and nephews; her special “adopted” family, the Bud Schofield family; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jan never met a stranger and was a delight to everyone she came in contact with. She was loved by everyone, and will be missed by all. The world lost a very special angel when God called her home.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louray Donner, and one niece, Sonia Taggart.

I only had the privilege of knowing Jan for about a half an hour prior to her entering the water, for what she had been yearning to do for a long time. She seemed very upbeat, and happy. If having lived for 67 years, and pass doing what you enjoy, I can only hope to follow in her footsteps. May you rest in peace Jan.

Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what's to be. A resting place along the road to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different paths along the way. We are all meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place far greater than we know. For some the journeys quicker for some the journeys slow. And when that journey finally ends we'll claim a big reward a life well lived and friends and family galore.
My feisty Aunt Jan skipped through the Golden Gates of Heaven to be with Jesus. I love you Aunt Jan. Please give Aunt Louray a hug for me.

Ms mittelstadt did so much more while at Todd Co. School than teach physical education. She dedicated so much of herself starting numerous girls activities, gymnastics, basket ball and the Girls Athletic Association she was a positive influence in a very impoverished area and personally in my life. Todd Co. Fans have not forgotten Ms Mittelstadt. Have a peaceful journey in the Spirit World. Prayers are with your family and friends
