Catherine Ann Hustead Roeof California, formerly of Wall, South Dakota, died on Sunday, July 9, 2023

Catherine Ann Hustead Roe was born on July 8, 1939 in Wall, South Dakota. After living a long, full life, loved by many, she passed on July 9, 2023.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas Roe, and children, Tracey Roe Knight (Kenny), Stephanie Roe Shintani (Scott), Michael Roe (Sandra), Cynthia Roe Lane (Paul), and William Roe (Maria). Her nine grandchildren were her joy: Brendan, Patrick, Emily, Jorge, Jules, Kate, Matthew, Quinn, and Sunny.
Catherine, who was fondly known as “Nice Cac,” spent many summers growing up working at the Wall Drug Store, with her parents, Ted and Dorothy Hustead, and her brothers, Bill and Charles “Chick” Hustead, and sister, Mary Hustead Bottum.
Catherine graduated from Marquette University with a degree in history. While attending Marquette, she met Tom Roe, who would go on to be her husband of over 60 years.
After graduating from college, she moved to Los Angeles, where she began her long teacher career. Catherine, who taught elementary school for over 30 years, was born to teach. She loved building struggling students up and transforming them into students who enjoyed school.
Tom and Catherine reunited after college in Los Angeles, got married, and raised their five children. They were members of the Cathedral Chapel parish and then St. Victor’s Catholic Church.
Catherine was also an avid reader and was a member of The Book Club for 30 years. She was a good friend of Bill W. for over 40+ years. Catherine loved to travel and could shop with the best of them.
She is remembered most for her hilarious sense of humor, wise advice, love of coffee, and her quest to always have fun. She is missed by all who loved her.
