Patricia "Trish" Hauk, age 62, of Piedmont, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026 at Monument Health in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Trish was born on December 20, 1963 in Philip, South Dakota, to parents Fred and Beverly (McClure) McDaniel. She was welcomed by three older siblings: Kerry, Marvin and Kathy. She enjoyed riding horses, playing with pets, and going on adventures with her family in the Black Hills.
She married Phillip Hauk of Wall, South Dakota, on March 5, 1982 in Philip. They moved to Mansfield, South Dakota, where Phillip worked on a farm/ranch operation. Trish tended to their numerous pets, which included a racoon and skunk along with cats, dogs, and various other farm animals.
After leaving Mansfield, Phillip and Trish returned to Wall to run the Elk and Fountain Motels for Phillip's father, Max. During that time, both were avid fossil hunters while also working various other jobs.
The couple moved to the Rapid City area in the late 1980's, where Trish worked and became a supervisor at H-S Precision making rifle stocks. Trish later joined Phillip at A&A Engraving, which specialized in customed gun engravings.
The couple moved to Piedmont in the 1990's and purchased a home. Trish helped out at Aqua Kingdom on Mt. Rushmore Road in Rapid City and became an expert in all things aquatic. She purchased the business when the owner died, renaming it Trish's Fishes. She had a dedicated customer base due to her excellent customer service and knowledge of fish and aquariums. She sold the business in 2007, following her tragic car accident that left her a paraplegic. Trish had numerous fish tanks at home that kept her busy, and she enjoyed the days that her sister Kathy and companion Jesse came to help. She also enjoyed her pets, crafting, raising plants and talking to her best friend Gwen.
In addition to her husband Phillip in Piedmont, Trish is survived by her mother Beverly McDaniel, sister Kathy McDaniel, sister Kerry (Pete) Wahlquist, niece Kersey (Omar) Wahlquist, nephew Sean (Sarah) Wahlquist, along with numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father Fred and brother Marvin.
Interment will be at the Piedmont Cemetery and a Celebration Life will be held at a later date. The family is very grateful for the love, prayers and support given by friends, family, and hospice caregivers throughout Trish's journey.
