Lola Joyce Young was born May 5, 1931 to Lyle and Mary (Kejsar) Young in Kadoka, South Dakota. Since her mother died a few days after her birth, Lola Joyce lived with her Grandmother Etta Chloe Young until her passing when she was eight years old. Grandma and the old homemade product were the reason Lola Joyce never drank.
Lola Joyce then lived with two single ladies in Bellevue, Nebraska until she moved back to the Kadoka area and stayed with her dad's brother and sister, Chuck and Charlene Young, until she went to live with her dad in Interior.
Lola Joyce was united in marriage to Tuffy Riggins on June 1, 1947, and they had three children: Stuart, Kelly, and Lynn. They made their home in the Wanblee area farming and ranching for many years. She worked at the Truck Stop Café in Kadoka and the U.S. Post Office in Wanblee. They moved north of Wall in later years to be closer to family.
Lola Joyce was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary and was president of District 9 during which time she was honored to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana and Florida.
Lola Joyce and Tuffy enjoyed dancing and were often seen dancing to one of their favorites, “The Crystal Chandeliers”. In 1974 Lola Joyce and Tuffy took an extended drive taking in the west coast from Washington down through California, visiting with family along the way.
Lola Joyce was a dedicated mother and grandmother and all of her grandkids loved her very much.
Survivors include sons: Stuart (Tracy) Riggins of Logandale, Nevada and Kelly (Denise) Riggins of Philip; daughter Lynn McKay of Creighton; step-daughter Rosan (Dick) Monaghan of Lenore, Idaho; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Faye Eisenbraun of Philip; brother-in-law Bud Perault of Belvidere; and numerous nieces and nephews.
