Darline Fuoss

of Pierre formerly of Draper, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 31, 2020
at the Avera Maryhouse in Pierre at the age of 92

Darline June Valburg was born on January 18, 1928 to William and Helen (Walters) Valburg in Mellette County. She grew up at the family ranch SW of White River, South Dakota. Darline attended Ring Thunder Country School and later graduated from White River High School in 1946. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls and taught at the Corey Country School near Murdo. Darline was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in White River. She had two brothers, a twin brother William J and Dale.

Darline met Orville Fuoss at a Westover dance. On January 11, 1948 they were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Draper. To their union were born four children: Sonja, Carol, Dave, and Bob.

Darline spent her life raising her kids, feeding hired men for the farm, and teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and being very active in the church she loved in Draper. Prior to the Draper Pool being built in 1964, she transported kids to Presho for swimming lessons on a very busy Highway 16. After swim lessons they stopped at Garnos Bakery before heading back to Draper. She resided at Parkwood in Pierre since Orville’s passing.

Darline loved her family and her grandchildren: Corina, Brent, Mike, Sara, Todd, Kyle, Andrew, Lori, Jennifer, and Brad; and great-grandchildren: Ty, Dylan, Saylor, Rachel, Emily, Aspen, Henry, Ryan, Madelyn, James, Liz, Bree, Eli, Torence, and Warren.

Darline is survived by two sons: Dave (Kathy) Fuoss and Bob (Diane) Fuoss; two daughters Sonja (LeRoy) Booth and Carol (Tom) Shepherd; her twin brother Bill "BJ" (Ellen) Valburg and sisters-in-law Isabelle Valburg, Viola Lightfield, and Mary Ann Johnson; brother-in-law Floyd Fuoss; and a host of nieces and nephews.
