Gerald Glen Morgan

of Rapid City, South Dakota, died on Thursday, December 19, 2024

Gerald Glen Morgan passed away Thursday morning December 19th, 2024. Gerald was born September 26, 1934, the second of eight children to Homer and Laura (Rossiter) Morgan. He grew up on his paternal grandfather’s homestead near Milesville, South Dakota. At the age of sixteen, he and a friend headed West to Oregon where they found jobs harvesting beans and processing Cherries. He returned home to farm with his brothers Al and Ed on their maternal grandfather’s homestead before serving in the Army as a radar operator in 1957 and was honorably discharged December 1959.

He moved to Rapid City where he and his brother Phil constructed buildings and then worked with his uncle Byron at Morgan ditching. While in Rapid City, he met his first wife Mary and her three sons, David, Steven, and Jerry. Gerald and Mary were married in November 1962 and had another son, Scott. Gerald drove fuel transport and in 1971 moved to Wall, SD where he took over the Standard Oil bulk agency. Gerald and Mary bought and operated a small motel in Wall, and he left the agency and worked for the Wall School district. He began working for Golden West Telephone Company in 1977 and retired in February 2000.

After Mary’s passing, he met Gladys Schneider on a golf date that was set up by a mutual friend. Gladys and Gerald have been inseparable since then and were married in June of 2000. They enjoyed many trips together including trips to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.

Gerald enjoyed telling stories and sharing jokes. Family was very important to him, and he loved spending time with his brothers and sisters, his sons and their families. Time spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids was very special to him.

Gerald is survived by his wife Gladys, four sons David (Annette) Aughenbaugh of Rockford Illinois, Steve (Carol) Aughenbaugh Of Box Elder SD, Jerry (Kim) Morgan of Wall SD, and Scott (Brenda) of Letcher SD; two step children Rick Schneider (Janice) of Rapid City SD, and Kathy Schneider (Tony) of Tabor SD; Seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Connie (Bill) Parsons of Milesville SD, Kyle Taylor of Gillette WY; two brothers Ed (Bonnie) of Miller SD and Keith Morgan of Billings MT; and a host of other relatives and friends.
