of Wall, South Dakota, died on Friday, August 25, 2023
peacefully at her home in Wall with her family and dog by her side at the age of 64

Barbara Jo “Bobbie Jo” Barnes-Amos, was born November 30, 1958 in Lebanon Missouri. She soon after came to live with relatives Nobert and Mabel Smith and their daughter Kathlyn. She was officially adopted by Nobert and Mabel of Brimfield, IL on November 16, 1962. Growing up in Brimfield she attended Brimfield Elementary and High School. After high school she then attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria, IL.

While in Peoria she met Rick Barnes and was later married in October of 1977. On August 12, 1978 she had her first son Doug Barnes. After the birth of their son, they spent a number of years living in several States throughout the South. Rick and Bobbie Jo eventually separated, and she returned to Illinois.

While living in Illinois, she met Gary Amos Jr of Macomb in 1989. After two years together, on February 25,1991, they had their son, Gary Amos III. They continued to live in Macomb, IL for a few years then later moved to a country home south of Colchester, IL. She worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for McDonough District Hospital throughout the late 90s up until 2006.

During the summer of 2006, they moved to Wall, SD for new job opportunities, the same town as her best friend and cousin Carolyn Johnson. Gary took a job with Waste Connections and Bobbie Jo worked a couple of jobs before finding her place in the office at Wall Drug. She spent the rest of her working days at Wall Drug and loved her time spent there and the people with whom she worked and grew close to. The Wall Drug Store was her second family. She worked up until the week she found that she was ill and was forced to stop in early July 2023.

Bobbie Jo loved traveling, spending time with friends and family, barbeques, the holidays, movies and television, her job at Wall Drug, and her beloved bull terrier Miley. She enjoyed time spent at her family home visiting her parents in Brimfield as well as visiting her sister and her large family of 7 in Beardstown IL. She loved vacationing with Gary and his family members at resorts at Lake of the Ozarks. She was a loving mother, wife, and friend, who put others’ needs and feelings before her own. She always felt the need to take care of the people around her.

She is survived by husband Gary Amos Jr, sons Doug(Robin) Barnes (St.James, MN) and Gary III (Pierre, SD), step-daughter Heather Amos (St. Louis, MO) sister Kathlyn(Randall) Haut (Beardstown, IL), brother-in-law John Wright (Colchester, IL), sister-in-law Gina Amos (Macomb, IL), father-in-law Gary (Sherry) Amos Sr (Bushnell, IL), as well as many nieces and nephews.
