Etta Maude Erdmannof Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, March 20, 2023

Etta Maude (Griesel) Erdmann was born to Paul and Miriam (Riddell) Griesel on the 28th day of September, 1931, in the town of Philip, South Dakota. The family moved to Hartley where she grew up and attended the Marietta School through 7th grade before moving to Philip where she finished school and graduated high school in 1949. Etta married Oliver Erdmann on October 22, 1949. They separated in November of 1983.
Etta worked various jobs before taking a position with Haakon County as the Deputy County Assessor. Etta took over as Assessor when Homer Morgan retired in 1970 until her retirement in 1997.
Etta found a special friend and soul mate with Chuck Allen. Throughout her later years she enjoyed spending time assisting Chuck with restoring antique furniture. She also loved playing golf and riding around town with Chuck in their golf cart.
Etta enjoyed her retirement years. She enjoyed having company and spending time with her many grandchildren.
Etta is survived by a son Paul Eugene Erdmann of Mesquite, Nevada; three daughters Paula (Johnny) Stone of Muleshoe, TX, Mitzi Houska of Moscow, ID, and Rosemarie (Kevin) Sinclair of Spearfish. Etta is blessed with nine grandchildren: John Paul Erdmann of Billings, MT, Michelle Erdmann of Brooklyn Park, MN, Gina Erdmann of Bemidji, MN, Angie Lano of Elk River, MN, Christine Miller of Elk River, Tracy Stone of Amarillo, TX, Shala Reed of Fiona, TX, Justin Houska of Moscow, ID, and Casey Curtis of Stanford, VA; five great-grandchildren: Joe, Jake, Shannon, Dillon, and Jensen; two great-great-grandchildren Jaxson and Jocelyn; and two brothers Jack (Arlyce) Griesel of Philip and Ben (Ann) Griesel of Martinez, Georgia.
Etta is preceded in death by her longtime companion Chuck Allen; her parents; four sisters Mavis Neiderworder, Edith Herber, Rosemary Greeno, and Pauline Griesel; son-in-law Kenneth Houska; and granddaughter Kayla Houska.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
