Marie Lammof Philip, South Dakota, died on Thursday, February 15, 2018

Marie Lamm was born April 22, 1928 in Medford, MN. She was the first of nine children born to Alpine and Orma (Hanson) McInnis. When Marie was 13 she traveled from Minnesota to Pierre to attend school. She graduated from Pierre High School in 1946.
In September of 1948 Marie was united in marriage to George Dirksen. To this union three children were born; Susan, Ralph, and Kathy. She spent the next 28 years working for the South Dakota Department of Social Services.
On August 13, 1974 Marie was united in marriage to George Lamm. They lived in rural Philip where they farmed and ranched. After George’s death in 1995, Marie continued to live in the country until 2007 when she moved to Philip.
During her life Marie enjoyed reading, playing cards and games (especially Canasta). She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary since 1950, a member of Sacred Heart Evening Guild, secretary and treasurer for Daughter’s of Colonial Wars, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Marie loved craft fairs, second hand stores, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her children; daughter Susan (Robert) Marrington of Riverton, WY, Ralph Dirksen of Philip, and Kathy (Joe) Gittings of Philip; six grandchildren, Chad (Janine) Marrington of Richland, WA, Amy (Jamie) Culp of Jackson Hole, WY, Kara (Gerry) Moriarty of Anchorage, AK, Jay (Jen Conry) Gittings of Rapid City, Mary (Danny) Quinn of Louisburg, KS, and John (Emily) Gittings of Philip; eleven great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Madison, and Megan Quinn, Joseph, Maggie, and Garrett Moriarty, Taten Gittings, Emmitt and Henley Gittings, Kayson and Daxton Jones; one brother, Robert (Beth) McInnis of Mesa, AZ; a sister-in-law Dorothy McKinney of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three sisters, four brothers, granddaughter Dana Sue Marrington, and great-grandson Taylon Marrington.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Gary Oreshoski as celebrant.
Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
