Harlan J. Moos was born March 17, 1966, in Philip, South Dakota to Tyrone and Elvera (Harnisch) Moos. He weighed 9lbs 4 oz, and his Grandpa Harnisch said, “he’s going to be a big boy – look at those shoulders!”
He attended school and graduated from Philip High School in 1984. Throughout his years in the Philip school system, Harlan was active in football, basketball, and track. He also enjoyed music and played in the band, sang in the choir, and attended All State Chorus. After high school Harlan was on a combine crew with Mike and Lee Albrecht for the summer and then worked with his Dad, Tyrone, on the family farm. Which he continued to be devoted to helping his parents run the family farm throughout his life.
Harlan was united in marriage to Georgia Hackworth on February 15, 1986, in Philip, South Dakota. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Branden and Alex. Harlan was such a wonderful husband to Georgia. He was always loving and comforting to her and was his pride and joy every day. He lived for his sons and was always there to give them advice whether they wanted to hear it or not. His grandkids were his world and he was their best friend. They all knew if they needed anything he would be there. He coached them on and off the field and they never doubted his love for them.
Harlan did a variety of jobs including working with Marty Hansen skinning coyotes and rabbits, construction, bus maintenance, a seasonal UPS driver, Philip Volunteer firefighter, and drove the bus for release time and also picked people up for church. He was very active in the church and had a strong faith and love for God.
Harlan enjoyed supporting and cheering on his boys in all of their sports and then went on to enjoy encouraging his grandkids. He loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. From the minute his boys were born he couldn’t wait to take them hunting and farming. He still bowled and also was very helpful and encouraging to others as they bowled. Harlan enjoyed planning events with his family and friends and this is why he was a very active member of Better Life Branch #85. Harlan was always willing to look out and help others anyway he could. Harlan was willing to go the extra mile to make someone happy. He always looked forward to Thursday night bowling so he could catch up with Nathan Kjerstad and talk about farming and they could brag on who was going to have a better score for the night.
Survivors include his wife Georgia of Philip; two sons Branden (Daesha) Moos and Alex Moos both of Philip; six grandchildren: Quintin, Linkin, Maddilin, Hudson, Sterling, and Harper; his parents Tyrone and Elvera Moos of Philip; and siblings Hallie (Mike) Albrecht of Philip and Heidi (Steve) Kampfe Pierre; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents John and Velma Harnisch; his paternal grandparents Albert and Luella Moos; and his mother and father-in-law George and Laura Hackworth.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Friday, February 18, at First Lutheran Church in Philip.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Fine Arts Building in Philip with Pastor Cindy Bisser officiating.
Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

Such a shock to hear of Harlan's death. Your whole family will remain in my prayers as you walk through this time of joyful remembrance and grievous loss. Nobody can replace a father/ grandfather. And losing a child-- unthinkable. May God's presence be a deep consolation now and in the coming days. And Harlan now dwells in the presence of the King of the Universe. Praise God that He receives his own.

My sympathy to the whole family. I remember the day he was born. I visited Elvera in the hospital. I had just come from the Doctor who had just told me I was pregnant with our son, Joel, who was born the next Oct. Those were exciting times. Harlan was always friendly and kind, especially to Dan's parents. It's a joy & delight to have known him & the entire Moos family. Now God has taken him home to live eternally. May God comfort all of you & give you peace.
