Robert McIlravy

of Piedmont, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, October 5, 2022
at his home in Piedmont at the age of 71

Robert Norman McIlravy was born May 15, 1951, in Kadoka, South Dakota, to Richard “Bus” and Audrey (Shonrock) McIlravy. Rob attended Philip High School, and then he went to gunsmithing school. Following graduation, he worked on the family ranch with his dad. He enjoyed hunting, gunsmithing, gun collecting and reading. He had an extensive book collection.

Rob worked at Merrillat. After leaving Merillat he worked for the National Park Service at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in the maintenance division. Upon returning to South Dakota, he worked maintenance at Wind Cave National Park including the cave lighting project. After his employment ended at Wind Cave he moved Piedmont. With his sister Betty, they managed the family ranch property. He had many friends who also enjoyed sharing hobbies.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Leigh Pascoe (Jennifer Cermak), granddaughter Jayee Pascoe, sister Betty (Clarence) Bohlander, Sugar Grove, IL, nephew Adam Bohlander (Claire Rasmussen), niece Eleanor, nephew William, special friend Sheryl Sether and her children Stacey Fielder, her children JC and Carson and Shawn Sether; and numerous relatives including aunts, uncles and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Celebration of life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
