Marie Miller was born September 10, 1922, on her parents’ farm near Reserve, Montana, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Miller) Miller. She grew up on her parents’ farm and attended Hawthorne Rural School in the Reserve area prior to graduating from Antelope High School in Antelope, Montana. She attended her freshman year at Grand View College in Des Moines before graduating from Montana State College in Bozeman, Montana, with a degree in foods and nutrition. She later took a dietary internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Marie worked as a dietician at the Bismarck Hospital and Ft. Meade Hospitals for two years, and later at the VA Hospital in Dwight, Illinois.
Marie was united in marriage to Chadwick “Chad” Addison on November 27, 1950, in Reserve, Montana. They made their home on Chad’s parents’ homestead ten miles northeast of Belvidere, which they continued to operate until retiring. Marie also continued her career as a dietician at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre from 1975 until 1979 and worked as a consultant at local hospitals in the area until her retirement. After Chad’s death on September 12, 1999, Marie continued to reside on the ranch until September 2003 when she moved to the Prairie View Apartments in Murdo. In April 2020 Marie went to live with her daughter Jean near Midland, where she has since resided.
Grateful for having shared her life include one son Lee Addison and his wife Rhonda of Belvidere; seven daughters Beryl Geer and her husband Darel of Gillette, Wyoming, Jean Calhoon and her husband David of Midland, Shirley Doud and her husband Ronald of Midland, Nancy Merchen and her husband Todd of Gillette, Dixie Doyle and her husband Mike of Rapid City, Teresa Walker and her husband Sam of Gillette, and Rena Addison of Rapid City; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Chad, Marie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Hans (Joan) Miller and Niels (Lorraine) Miller.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Belvidere Community Church or Gideons International. Cards and memorials may be sent to P.O. Box 146 Midland, SD 57552.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Community Church in Belvidere with Pastor Jesse Taylor and Ken Toews officiating.
Private family interment will be held at the Belvidere Community Cemetery.

My interactions with Marie were limited, but she was always a delight when I did get to see her. She amazes me to have given birth to eight children and living to 100 yo! Those two factors alone tell what a strong woman she was. She leaves a legacy in her children, grands and greats!
