In memory of

Larry Gust Larson

of Marion, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 76

Larry Gust Larson died peacefully at the Mayo Clinic on May 14, 2019 in Rochester, MN due to complications with Mesothelioma. He was 76.

Larry was born on September 13, 1942 in Pierre, SD to his parents, Gust and Lucy (Bonhorst) Larson. He graduated Midland High School and later from the University of South Dakota earning a bachelor’s degree in business. He was the president of the school’s Investment Club.

He went to work with his dad at 12 years old at Midland Grain and Lumber to make the grain elevator work. They were successful and were able to make Midland their permanent home for generations to come.

He married Jean Dixon of Pierre, SD, in a double wedding with her sister, Judymae, to Raymond Bowers in 1966. They lived in various communities in the upper Midwest after he left the family business and went to work for Wayne Feeds (Allied Mills), which was bought by Hubbard Feeds and later Continental Grain. Larry stayed on with each move. He loved to assist farmers in improvement of their livestock, soil and family’s prosperity.

Larry was a voracious reader with a passion for learning. He traveled the world in order to better understand himself and humanity as a whole. He loved nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren to parks. Larry was an active member of the Isaac Walton League.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jean Larson of Marion, IA; son, Travis Larson of Marion, IA; daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Drew McEleney of Omaha, NE; two grandchildren, Leo and Lewis; sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. One of his last wishes was to be with them after he passed away.

A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. MDT on Friday, July 5th, 2019 at the Midland Cemetery with Pastor Cindy Bisser officiating.

Following the burial all are welcome to attend and celebrate Larry’s life at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 4-6:30 pm, with a pot luck.
